Welcome to the Considering
Alexander SIDS Foundation, Inc.

On September 17th, 1995, Alexander Williamson-Noble, a seven and half months' old twin, died in his crib of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or 'SIDS'; sometimes also known as 'Cot Death'.  His parents, Esmeralda and Hugh Williamson-Noble, had moved to Westchester County, New York from London only four months earlier; they had few friends and nowhere to turn for support.

Three months later, through her sheer determination, Esmeralda rallied a handful of neighbors for a round of carol singing, raising the first $120 for a fledgling organization.  From this humble beginning, 'Considering Alexander' has grown in a short time to be a serious, internationally recognized foundation and a major influence in the SIDS community.

Our Mission:
To comfort and counsel those families who have lost
a child to SIDS, to offer training to emergency
personnel, to raise awareness and to disseminate
risk reduction advice as it becomes available through
research; to promote and sponsor such research into
the causes of SIDS and its elimination.

The main annual fundraising event in New York City, The Windflower Ball, makes a substantial contribution towards the Foundation's goals of promoting research, education and support for families stricken by SIDS, in addition to raising public awareness.

Windflowers, as babies who die of SIDS, are short lived.  They come and go like the wind.  We want to keep them with us, to see them grow and bloom.

Among the Foundation's efforts have been grants to researchers, establishment of a SIDS Crisis Hot Line, and the production of special nursery thermometers with SIDS Risk Reduction Advice.  The Foundation has also sponsored two New York State SIDS Conferences and several other national and international initiatives.

Thank you for taking the time to visit 'Considering Alexander' online.  Within this website, you'll find information about what we do and what we would like to do to continue our mission to help in the reduction and, hopefully, elimination of SIDS.  If you, family or friends have been touched by SIDS, please visit our SIDS Family Page and encourage others to do so.  Do not hesitate to be in touch with us directly if you would simply like to talk.

We will welcome any and all ideas you might have and any support you are able to offer in assisting us to work towards our worthwhile aims.
